Recently, there have been developments in the field of Reproductive Biology in the country and the entry of the country's researchers into research in this field, caused quick and easy access to DNA samples has increased. In 2004, the Royan Institute established a human DNA bank for patients facing various infertility problems. This bank was created to support research projects and facilitate collaboration among centers.

Goals
One of the goals of forming DNA databases is to provide the necessary grounds for completing the human genome project in identifying genes and their roles. Also, for the study of genetic risk factors of common diseases and epidemiological studies, the existence of a DNA bank is essential. One of the distinctive features of Royan Institute's DNA bank is the gathering of laboratory, clinical, and non-clinical information on a sample, which is of great help to researchers.

Activities
When preparing a DNA bank, there are several factors to consider, including the type, quality, and quantity of the sample, the method of collection, obtaining consent, and the ethnicity of the donor.
Therefore, due to having the required specialized facilities and equipment as well as having specialized experience in this field, the detailed information related to the samples in the bank, such as the reason for referral and its final diagnosis, embryo file number, and cytogenetic number should be stored and organized in the software, and also, the DNA concentration extracted from the samples and their protein contamination is measured and recorded by the Nanodrop device. The DNA Bank has established itself as a reputable research center worldwide. With over 15 years of research experience, both inside and outside the Royan Research Institute, it has produced and maintained over 6,000 samples from twenty groups of both fertile and infertile individuals.

Examples of male infertile include:
Azoospermia, Oligospermia, Hypogonadism- Hypogonadotropic, Abnormal Morphology, Short Tail, Round Head spermogram, Asthenozoospermia, Pin Head sperm, Maturation Arrest, Globozoospermia, Oligoasthenoteratospermia, Asthenoteratozoospermia, Sperm Immobility, Infertility Unexplained، Cystic Fibrosis، Obesity

Examples of female infertile include:
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Amenorrhea, Premature Ovarian Failure, Poor responder, Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome, Diabetic pregnancy, Hyper Prolactinemia, Mole

Examples of couple infertile include:
Recurrent Abortion, ART Failure, Sex selection – Control

It should be noted that the DNA bank has provided over 2000 samples to around fifty research projects, and the number and diversity of these samples continue to grow.
