Dr. Bita Ebrahimi was born in 1975 and graduated from Tehran University of Medical Sciences with a bachelor's degree in physiotherapy in 1998, and she has completed her graduate studies with a master's degree and doctorate in the field of Anatomical Sciences at Tarbiat Modares University. In 2008, she graduated as a distinguished student after completing his doctoral thesis under the guidance of Dr. Mojtabi Rezazadeh. The thesis was titled "Evaluation of maturity and ultrastructure of oocyte-cumulus complexes of sheep after glass freezing with conventional crytop and solid surface methods." She started her collaboration with Royan Institute in 2010 and currently works as a faculty member in the embryology department. Her main research subject is to investigate the processes of freezing and culturing ovarian tissue and the molecular mechanisms involved in them. She has presented about 50 articles in prestigious domestic and foreign magazines, as well as about 90 summaries of articles in prestigious scientific congresses and seminars inside and outside the country.

History
The Embryology Department was established as a component of the Royan Institute in 1996, and over the years, the department has conducted numerous experimental studies related to embryology in human and animal fields, and Its achievements have been utilized to treat patients.

Goals
  • Increasing the number of high-quality human embryos
  • Production of transgenic animals with specific genes in order to prepare drugs and recombinant hormones
  • Stabilization of human follicle in vitro culture method after ovarian tissue freezing
  • Numerous types of research to preserve fertility and treat infertility
  • to produce high-quality embryos and increase fertility rate
  • Fulfilling the wish of infertile couples to have a child and drawing a bright future for them
Activities
  • Improving assisted reproductive methods to improve gamete and human embryo quality
  • Study of cellular and molecular aspects of in vitro gamete maturation and human embryo development
  • Embryo co-culture with different types of somatic cells
  • Study of cellular and molecular changes as a result of gamete, embryo, and reproductive tissue freezing
  • Biology of the temperature reduction process and its physicochemical effects on biological materials (cryobiology)
  • Improving methods of laboratory maturation of human and animal gametes and investigating cellular and molecular changes during this process
  • Investigating cellular and molecular processes involved in embryo implantation
  • 3D cultivation of endometrial cells in order to reconstruct its biological model
  • 3D cultivation of follicle and ovarian tissue in order to obtain mature eggs
  • Setting up and investigating the cellular and molecular processes of nuclear transfer
  • Launching and updating animal cloning methods
  • The beginning of research on creating transgenic animals in order to produce recombinant drugs and hormones
  • Finding the best way to preserve gametes, ovarian tissue, and testes
  • Establishment of the human ovary and testis bank
  • Activation of primordial follicles using induction culture media in ovarian and follicle tissue culture
  • Using natural scaffolds of body tissues in ovarian and follicle cultivation
  • Differentiation of stem cells with non-ovarian sources towards germ cells and pseudogamets
  • Effects of Mother's nutrition and Infant's infancy on the reproductive system and sex cells
  • Storing animal reproductive cells and tissues in the animal biobank in order to preserve valuable species.
