Fertility Preservation in Cancer Patients

The fertility preservation program for cancer patients is about a decade old in Iran, and the specialized workgroup "Preservation of Fertility in Oncofertility Patients" started working at Royan Institute in 2017. This workgroup maintains fertility in cancer patients, including adult women and men; also, immature boys and girls benefit from the latest and most up-to-date scientific methods in the world in the field of preserving reproductive ability, including gamete and embryo freezing, or ovarian and testicular tissue, and other known methods of preserving reproductive ability; also, updating the existing treatment methods, it has put the support of related research projects on its agenda, and in addition to research in the field of improving the known methods of maintaining fertility, research in new fields, including obtaining gametes from stem cells and tissue engineering, is in line with its goals.
This specialized workgroup tries to achieve systematic provision of services in this field by developing guidelines for preserving fertility in cancer patients. The members of this workgroup include clinical specialists and basic sciences such as Gynecologists, Urology, Anesthesia, Oncology, Perinatology, Radiology, Genetics, Psychology, Embryology, Surgeon, Pathology, Medical Ethics, and Forensic Medicine.
